In The Great Gatsby's silk shirts scene, you see their love and passion they once obtained. The shirts are one of the biggest and cherished moments in the book. It's actually a symbol for Daisy's life in many ways. When he threw the shirts and Daisy suddenly started to cry was very funny because you would think, "She be crying cuz them shirts hit her in the eye". In this scene you see how Daisy has great regret for not waiting for Gatsby in the pearls scene in chapter 4. Daisy is all about the money and how she would never live with out him, and if she did wait she'll have all the money she wanted and a split of happiness (because Daisy will never be satisfied). The shirt symbolizes a little about Daisy's American Dream too. Shows how all she want is to be a stay-at-home mom who doesn't want to work and have whatever her eyes desired. Daisy herself is a very materialistic woman whose only joy is obtaining wealth and worldly possessions. |
